Midtown, Sacramento is known for being the hippest and fastest-growing district in the California capital. Trip Advisor recently added Sacramento to their list of Top 30 Cities to Visit in 2018, while Sunset magazine named Sacramento #1 on their list of 20 Game-Changing Places to Live. With more than 600 businesses ranging from trendy bars to boutique retail shops, residents and visitors alike enjoy the burgeoning attractions and nightlife scene. Here are just some of my favorite hangout destinations in Midtown.

LowBrau Bierhalle
The LowBrau Bierhalle restaurant and bar is a modern take on a traditional German beer hall. Located in the heart of Midtown, this popular hangout destination attracts Sacramento natives and travelers who find themselves in need of a great social gathering. Visitors come for the signature bratwurst while others stop by for a draught beer and a quick insta-worthly pic. You have a choice of eating inside or outside on the front deck under the trees and globe string lights. Ask any “Sac” resident and they are sure to point you in the direction of LowBrau.

Temple Coffee Roasters
With two locations in Midtown and four others around the Sacramento area, Temple Coffee Roasters is the place to wind down your evening with a slow-drip coffee and a dessert. My favorite location is on 22nd & K Street! This location is a mixture of vintage-meets-modern décor, floor to ceiling windows, a wooden bean structure and the most striking feature – a 500,000 hand-laid penny floor, making this stop less than average.

Federalist Public House
A personal favorite of mine is the Federalist. Offering wood-fired pizza and locally crafted beer, their beer garden is constructed from seven shipping containers! Eat and drink together in this communal gathering located in Matsui Alley off of Capitol Ave and 20th street. Fun fact: Your furry friends are welcome!

The Flamingo House Social Club
One of the newer additions to the nightlife scene in Midtown is The Flamingo House. This converted Victorian home is now a destination hot spot for those who are looking for a fun night out. Lounge around and experience a tropical vibe from the floral painted walls, a flux flower terrarium bed ceiling, and color changing mood lighting. The Flamingo House offers small plates, exceptionally delicious cocktails and can also host small private events. It’s not hard to miss, look for the bright pink Victorian home with a white picket fence on 23rd & K Street.

Bottle & Barlow
The only spot in Midtown where you can sip on a draught beer or cocktail while getting your hair cut and styled. Located in the Historic R Street District this full-service barbershop and cocktail lounge will set you back into the 1920’s with its retro interior and herb-infused cocktails. My favorite cocktail is the British Invasion.

No matter which part of town you are in, Sacramento’s tree canopy makes every stroll feel like a walk in the park. The canopy has a variety of trees; thick with elms, oaks, sycamores, and hundreds of species draping around this urban city. Next time you take a vacation to Northern California, plan your stay in Sacramento and take a stroll through the ‘City of Trees’.
