Baseball, Beer, and Summertime – Pittsburgh Edition
Baseball + Beer is a great theme for summer 2018 – cruise your way around all the hot spots this summer to try new things and cheer on the Pittsburg Pirates! Enjoy the Heinz Museum, Primantis Bros, Market Square and one of the most beautiful baseball parks in North America – PNC Stadium, Pittsburgh is a must visit city!
Let’s Play Ball
Pittsburgh is home to none other than the Pittsburgh Pirates – Go Bucs! With a sea of yellow and black swarming into PNC Park on game days, this is a must-see on your baseball road trip! Known by fans across the country as one of the most beautiful ballparks with its sweeping views of the downtown Pittsburgh skyline, the Allegheny River, and Roberto Clemente Bridge, this is one of my favorite parks to watch a game at during baseball season. Get to the game early and grab a drink from the Jim Beam Left Field Lounge and have your choice of people watching from the outdoor patio or batting practice from the bar. Ballpark eats can be found throughout the park and my favorite snack to nibble on is a hot pretzel and a pint of Blue Moon beer. Pick up cute and quirky perogies at the souvenir shop to bring home after you watch the 7th inning perogies race.
Strip District & Entertainment
Don’t sleep in or you will miss the action. Pittsburgh’s Strip District is a great weekend spot. With numerous food and craft vendors as well as sports memorabilia stores lined up and down the street. The Strip District is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Pittsburgh by far. Dine at the very first Primanti Bros. located in the strip for a corned beef sandwich (to die for) – take a look at the graffiti walls and enjoy unique crafts and one of a kind finds. Take a short walk into downtown to visit Market Square where entertainment can be found day and night.
NEWS from the BREWS
My favorite watering hole in this entire city is– The Beerhive. The name itself boasts any beer lover’s haven. This brewpub is known for numerous beers on tap with seasonal rotating ones. I absolutely love the deep fried pickles and the seasonal taps are always great to taste. They also sell large growlers so that you can take home some of your favorite beers to enjoy it when you return home!
East End Brewery – one of Pittsburgh’s oldest craft breweries opened up a gorgeous tasting room in the Strip District in 2017. East End Brewery has excellent beers, I enjoy grabbing a tasting flight to get a little taste of what this brewery has to offer. My recommendation would definitely be the Monkey Boy wheat beer or the Along Came a Cider – refreshing apple flavored summer cider drink.
City Works – Located in the Market Square – this brewpub is a hot spot for a night on the town. It has a large bar with great food and great drinks. The atmosphere is lively and fun- grab a bite and stay a while – I recommend the Calamari. After a quick bite, end your evening strolling through the square.
