Satisfy Your Curio(sity) at The Logan Philadelphia
What my family has always loved about travel is the exhilarating sense of discovery. New places, new cultures, new foods, new languages, new people. And our latest discovery was practically right in our own backyard!
One of the fabulous Curio Collection Hotels by Hilton, The Logan, is right here in Philadelphia! My husband and I couldn’t wait to explore this iconic space. As locals who have lived in the Philadelphia area for years, we love escaping to the city for mini-vacations. And we knew our weekend staycation at The Logan would be something very special.
This art-inspired palace of industrial chic is named after James Logan, a well-respected colonial statesman, diplomat and scholar and is easy to find, located on – where else? Logan Square.
Top 10 Reasons to Love The Logan Hotel in Philadelphia
1. The Art of Staying at The Logan
Staying at The Logan is like living in a cool art museum! Everywhere we looked we were immersed in locally curated art: metal sculptures, hanging installations, and paintings. Two of our personal favorites included the hundreds of black and white images of famous Philadelphians hanging high above our heads on The Logan’s signature main entrance chandelier, and the lobby’s Iron Man sculpture, representing the various stages of human evolution.
Huge canvases of Philly native Grace Kelly greet you on each floor, and the art doesn’t stop in the hallways. Inside each of the 390 hotel rooms you’ll discover original Philadelphia artwork. Not only does this art tell the story of Philadelphia, but much of it was created by an art cooperative nearby in West Philadelphia.
2. You May Find it Hard to Leave the Room
We were totally taken in by the luxurious style of our newly appointed room with its cool, soothing palette of soft grays and tans and its intriguing artwork. A focal point of our room was the huge picture window overlooking the Logan Fountain and Philadelphia museums as far as the eye could see. My very personal highlight: slipping into the hotel’s ultra-comfy sweatshirt material Rocky-inspired hoodie robe. I may have to return to The Logan just to buy one!
3. Dining at the Oh-So-Wonderful Urban Farmer
The Urban Farmer at The Logan is a welcome addition to Philadelphia’s sophisticated dining scene. This modern “farm-to-table” steakhouse bursts with a colorful and rustic, yet chic, decor. Its inviting ambiance welcomes both guests and locals. (In fact, we ran into several couples we knew from the area.)
We loved our dinner! For our appetizers, we selected the intensely flavorful house-made charcuterie and the expertly-curated artisanal cheese selections. We enjoyed listening to the Cheese Steward describe each selection as he guided us in choosing the perfect combination based on our palates’ distinctive tastes. The contrasting flavors of these cheeses, complemented by honey and fruit, exploded in our mouths.
We delighted in the innovative New York Steak Tasting Platter, comparing the flavors of the well-chosen cuts. But this steakhouse goes well beyond great steaks. It will please non-steak eaters, as well, with a tempting menu of innovative, locally-sourced meat and seafood entrees.
A “must-order” for us was the perfectly-seared Dayboat Scallops, which were full of flavor! Two of our favorite sides were Brussels Sprouts, with pears, pinot, shallots, and herbs, and the Twice Baked Potato Tart with cheddar, bacon, and chive. And then came dessert…how could we resist dessert? Don’t miss the delectable Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte with Blonde Coffee Ice Cream with its rich chocolate flavor bursting with peanut butter accents.
For a more casual meal you can sit at the counter. If you are seeking a more intimate dining experience, you can eat in a private room overlooking the immaculate kitchen!
4. Brunch Perfected
While dinner at Urban Farmer is a fabulous experience, you may very well want to return for an equally wonderful brunch. What a struggle to decide what to order from the expansive menu! We indulged in the Avocado Benedict and airy Brioche French Toast with blueberry preserves.
Note: As an added bonus for Hilton Gold and Diamond members you can use a daily credit toward your bill for breakfast at Urban Farmer. What a perk!!!
5. Get Physical
My fit husband was quite impressed by the inviting, energizing ultra state-of-the-art gym at The Logan. It includes the latest in cardio equipment, free weights and a very cool TV-treadmill combo. This 24-hour fitness center also offers complimentary access to a sauna and steam room.
6. A State of Zen in the City of Philadelphia
While my husband exhausted himself on the treadmill, I retreated to The Spa at The Logan. Accurately described as a “downtown sanctuary,” the spa was fantastic! Pampering at its finest, The Logan Relaxation Massage helped weeks of my daily pressures happily melt away. You can also enjoy luxurious facials and first-class mani-pedis. Feeling rejuvenated, I could ease myself into the inviting indoor heated saltwater pool to complete my relaxation or, being luxuriously lazy as I was, crawl up with a good book and let the others swim laps.
7. Kids Love The Logan
The Logan lives up to its family-friendly reputation. We noticed some little ones gleefully roaming around the hotel, frolicking in the indoor pool and devouring huge plates of fluffy pancakes at breakfast. For those times when you rest up in your hotel room, The Logan’s 24-hour room service includes a special kids’ menu. The TV in the room also offers plenty of channels which specifically appeal to the younger set.
8. Location, Location, Location!
Step out the door of The Logan right into Philadelphia’s vibrant cultural scene, full of gourmet restaurants, upscale shopping, and excellent entertainment choices. Within minutes you can be sprinting up the Philadelphia Art Museum steps like Rocky! From the hotel’s windows you can literally see Philadelphia’s Museum Row: the fabulous Franklin Institute Science Museum, the beautiful Auguste Rodin Museum and the dinosaur-filled Academy of Natural Sciences.
As “locals” already familiar with the previously mentioned sights, we chose to stroll around Philadelphia, relaxing in the city’s most famous urban park, Rittenhouse Square, sampling the treats of the DiBruno Bros. Rittenhouse Square Gourmet Market, shopping along Walnut Row and grabbing a gourmet coffee at La Colombe. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Convention Center and one of my favorite snacking spots, Reading Terminal Market.
9. Cocktail Culture
With its welcoming lobby bar, ultra-modern Commons area, and the inviting Urban Farmer scene, The Logan is the ideal spot to grab a cocktail. And they know how to do cocktails! We loved sampling the creative offerings of The Logan’s mixologists. Our personal favorites were Three Dots and a Daiquiri featuring Banks 5 Island Rum and FARMER #4 made with Hangar One vodka.
10. Up on the Roof
We are already planning a return visit to The Logan to enjoy the hotel’s wonderful addition to the Philadelphia nightlife scene, a hip rooftop lounge known as The Assembly. We can just imagine sitting by the fire pits, meeting friends for drinks and soaking in the panoramic views of Logan Square.
Whether you’re planning a family visit to Philly, a romantic escape, or a staycation just minutes from your home, The Logan is an excellent choice! From the doormen, the front desk staff and housekeeping to the servers at Urban Farmer and my masseuse, the service we received was top-notch. The employees obviously take pride in working at this beautiful hotel and make every effort to ensure that your stay lives up to Hilton’s high standards.
After visiting this luxurious Curio, we are even more curio(us) to explore the other Hilton hotels that are part of this fine collection!
