Kid’s Favorite Shopping Spots in New York City
My kids love New York City and they look forward to new adventures each time we visit. Planning a trip as a family takes careful balance of how much we want to see while keeping everyone happy. When I travel with my children, I always make time to stop at places just for them. Kids can make it through that last museum as long as they know a fun place awaits them. Here are some of my kid’s favorite places for shopping in New York City.
Books of Wonder
Remember the adorable bookstore that Meg Ryan’s character owned in the movie You’ve Got Mail? It was said to be inspired by the New York City store Books of Wonder. Books of Wonder is New York City’s oldest and largest children’s bookstore. The store is located at 18 West 18th street (between 5th and 6th Avenues). The knowledgeable staff will help kids find a new treasure, or stop in for story time that occurs every weekend. The bookstore also hosts launch parties and author signings. After shopping, take a break at the attached Cupcake Café.
Nintendo World New York
If there is a video game fan in your family, don’t miss the Nintendo World Store. Located next to the Today show studios in Rockefeller Plaza, this store not only has gaming areas and unique Nintendo character merchandise, the store is also a museum of Nintendo history. Gaming tournaments and special events are held at this location. The latest and greatest in Nintendo products can always be found here.
Dylan’s Candy Bar
Ralph Lauren’s daughter Dylan started a candy store that is floors of paradise for any child. The three levels of walls, ceilings and floors are all covered in candy! Dylan’s Candy Bar is located on the Upper East side on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 60th Street. Walk to here from FAO Schwartz and also pass Sprinkle’s Cupcakes and Bloomingdales with Magnolia Bakery. Serendipity 3 is just down the street as well if more sugar is still on the list.
Rockefeller Plaza is filled with attractions for everyone. See the Today Show set or view the sights from Top of the Rock. If shopping is also a priority for the kids, the Lego store and American Girl store are located here. Split the boys and the girls and enjoy a little retail therapy.
All of these shopping spots are located near the main tourist attractions and are easily walkable when staying at New York Hilton Midtown or Hilton Times Square. Enjoy the New York sites and have fun shopping in New York City, too!
