Instagram Scavenger Hunt: Los Angeles Edition

About five years ago, my family and I started to implement Instagram “scavenger hunts” into our travels. It’s a fun way for all of us to participate in planning the itinerary and saves me from possibly oversharing our family vacation.

For this Instagram scavenger hunt, we’re focusing on La La land because it has so many iconic landmarks and locations to make your IG account POP! The lighting in L.A. is a dream come true with clear blue skies and an abundance of natural sunlight throughout the day, making the need for editing a thing of the past. I guess you could even say L.A. comes with its own natural filter. No wonder everyone here is gorgeous!

L.A. is really big. Not many people realize how big Los Angeles proper really is reaching well beyond TMZ (thirty mile zone). In fact, LAX isn’t even in Los Angeles, which surprises many people, yet Santa Monica and Venice are still considered L.A. even though they don’t share the name.

In order to capture the quintessential L.A. Instagram feed, you need to curate your “9 squares” with the following spots, bonus if you get one inside the Hollywood Bowl or a selfie with a celeb!

Instagram Scavenger Hunt Checklist:

LACMA: The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is a goldmine for clutch Instagram snapshots. Some options to consider are Urban Light at night and Levitated Mass.

Hollywood Sign: The most significant landmark of Los Angeles is the iconic Hollywood Sign. The best way to catch the perfect shot is to hike up the trail where there are plenty of great photo ops to catch the sign in all of its glory.

If you’re aiming to snap pictures of Los Angeles landmarks, a hike to the Hollywood sign is a must!

Love Wall: This is a favorite of mine in Venice Beach on Abbot Kinney. It’s a great spot for photos because the wall is painted with hundreds of colorful graffiti hearts.

Angel Wall: Just steps away from our favorite shop, Le Labo on Third, is one of four angel wings portraits on the side of a building. This is another spot where you won’t need to use a fancy filter because the colors are so vibrant.

Santa Monica Pier: Day and night, this pier is a fantastic location for photos because you can nab the Pacific Ocean in the background and the glow of the neon carnival lights at night. Either time it’s a win-win.

The Griffith Observatory: This historical landmark is hugely popular with the IG squads. Grab a shot of the observatory from afar with the Hollywood Sign in the distance, or creep right up next to it at close range and focus on the details of the architecture.

Walt Disney Concert Hall: Speaking of architecture, one of the most interesting structures in the city is by far the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown L.A.

Capitol Records: Just steps from the Hollywood Walk of Fame on the corners of Hollywood and Vine is the legendary building where the biggest names in music hail from. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a free show from acts playing on the roof — or inflatable pigs flying high during Pink Floyd re-releases.

Stahl House: Probably the most photographed structure in all the land, the Stahl House boasts impressive views and can be visited by making reservations in advance.

The Beverly Hilton is an icon in its own right and a convenient, central and glamorous place to stay amongst all of these Los Angeles landmarks.

See! I told you Los Angeles is overflowing with awesome Instagram locations. Do you have a favorite spot in the city that was left off my list? If so, leave the location in the comments, and we’ll be sure to add it to our next L.A. list!
