Hilton Guam Resort & Spa Review: A Great Family-Friendly Choice

I have a long history with Hilton Guam Resort & Spa growing up on the U.S. territory and Pacific island of Guam, about a four-hour flight from Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines. This hotel has been part of the island’s tourism landscape and history for almost 40 years. I’ve attended many events and functions here but have never stayed. I finally had the opportunity to stay at Hilton Guam for several days with my family during our visit to Guam last summer and this resort didn’t disappoint.

Tumon is Guam’s tourist district and where many of the hotels and resorts are located. Hilton Guam is located at the southern end of the Tumon strip next to a beach park. It is close enough to the tourist center yet far enough away to enjoy the beachside property away from the crowds.

We highly recommend renting a car for easier sightseeing. Guam is only 30 miles long and 8 miles wide. It’s hard to get lost. Though there is also a tram that travels around the tourist district.

There are three separate but interconnected buildings which house 646 guest rooms and suites. We stayed in Hilton Guam’s tallest building, the Premier tower. We enjoyed sitting in our balcony everyday. With the stunning ocean view that greeted us, it was so hard to leave that room.

The view from our room at Hilton Guam Resort & Spa was gorgeous.

For those who want the next level of pampering, there’s also Tasi Club for a “hotel within a hotel” experience of 95 oceanfront and ocean view rooms with premium amenities, personalized services, welcome drinks and nightly turndowns.

From the hallways to the rooms, all of the areas at Hilton Guam are decorated in fresh, light-toned colors with tropical touches. Guam is very hot and humid so our spacious room with its modern amenities, comfortable temperatures and beds was a welcome retreat every night. I loved the ample storage space, which came in handy during our extended stay.

The bathrooms are spacious and have showers and bathtubs. This is rare in hotel rooms nowadays but a bonus when traveling with kids.

The rooms at Hilton Guam Resort & Spa were light and spacious.

The hotel boasts some wonderful amenities for visitors and locals alike. There are six varied restaurants and bars at Hilton Guam. Islander Terrace has a delicious breakfast buffet and also offers themed buffets throughout the week. Caffe Cino is open 24 hours everyday and located in the lobby. They are convenient for quick drinks, desserts, pastries and sandwiches. The café was our favorite stop before we headed out. They have delicious cheesecakes!

Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond status members have access to one of the best Executive Lounges we’ve visited. It’s spacious with amazing views. Complimentary breakfast buffet with a wide assortment of items and afternoon beverages/snacks are offered here. We ate a majority of our breakfasts here. It was a lovely way to start the day.

There is also a Roy’s Restaurant for some Hawaiian fusion cuisine. For a great family dining option, Fisherman’s Cove offers guests the chance to choose from a seafood display and chefs prepare meals to their preferences. Don’t worry, there are children’s menus and non-seafood items here too.

For some adults-only fun, Roy’s Lounge and the Tree Bar offer live music. The Tree Bar also has a dance floor and is located overlooking the water. This was one of my favorite hangouts when visiting Guam. Tropics BBQ Dinner Show offers a nightly buffet with cultural entertainment and fire dances that’s great for the whole family.

Guam’s tropical climate is ideal for kids who love spending time at the beach or pools. We loved the Resopa Water Park with its terraced swimming pools, waterslide, kiddie pool, and Jacuzzi amidst a tropical garden and waterfalls. Unfortunately, some of the facilities were closed for improvements during our stay.

My kids loved hanging out at the Resopa Park and its pools.

Hilton Guam’s prime beachfront location is ideal for snorkeling, kayaking, diving and water sports activities. Water sports equipment can be rented and activities scheduled on site. The prices were very reasonable. The private beach was a bit rocky but a short walk took us to one of Guam’s most popular beaches.

The property also has five tennis courts, a Wellness Center, shopping arcade and playground. Kidz Paradise offers varied activities and games for kids, ages 6-12, per 3 1/2-hour session for a fee. Families can use two playrooms equipped with toys, books and games. Free family activities including cookie decorating and balloon art are also available.

One of the things I’ve missed about Guam is the spirit of family and hospitality. We received impeccable service and big smiles from everyone we met during our stay. I’m glad Hilton Guam has extended that island hospitality to visitors including this returning local. It became our home away from home and definitely the one we’d stay at again on our next visit.
