Visit Shreveport, Louisiana with Kids

While New Orleans gets the lion’s share of attention, Shreveport, Louisiana, offers visitors many options for a weekend getaway. Whether you want to lose yourself in the bustle of a busy city, shop your weekend away, or wander through the history of the area, Shreveport can be a great weekend destination for you.

Shreveport and the neighboring Bossier City are located on the Red River in the northwest corner of Louisiana. Casino boats line the river and provide entertainment for the many visitors to the area. However, there are many family-friendly options to explore.

4 Fun Things to do in Shreveport, LA with Kids

1. Shreveport Aquarium
The Shreveport Aquarium is a delightful retreat for visitors of all ages. My older girls enjoy the exhibits, and our friends with younger children are fascinated by the hands-on experiences as well. Several touch tanks are available featuring animals large and small such as sharks, stingrays, shrimp, sea urchins, and sea stars. Tickets are very competitively priced with discounted rates and coupons available.

Not far from the Aquarium are the Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets, also directly on the river. Enjoy a day of shopping both familiar and specialty stores. Have a delicious lunch on a patio overlooking the river. Take a break to enjoy a chocolatier or cheesecake dessert. Catch a movie, play in the arcade, sit by the fountain, or take a turn on the large carousel. No matter your interests, you will find a multitude of memories waiting for you on the Boardwalk!
