Top 5 activities for guaranteed fun:
1. Stray Boots NYC/New York: The Game
Grab the cell phones – one of my teen’s best friends – and get busy with this self-guided, interactive exploration. From art museums to old Manhattan, Stray Boots offers 12 different game zones that will have your family exploring the town, at your own pace, in a fabulous, scavenger-hunt type fashion. The game has you visit cool spots, send in answers, receive points and learn fun, interesting facts about the city. It also lets you play together or in teams for added excitement.
2. Central Park…For Sure
From horse-drawn carriage rides, to a carousel, ice skating (winter months), row boating (warmer months), model boat sailing and even a zoo, this 843-acre, iconic park was a super-impressive place for my kids…For sure! We helped our kids get involved by downloading the free Central Park App for an interactive GPS-enabled map. This little tool really helped spearhead the adventure and chart the course on where to go and what to do. Our kids loved being involved!
3. Madame Tussauds Wax Museum In Times Square
Stroll through Times Square and then stop at the wax museum for over 220 world-famous, celebrity photo opps. It’s easy to get the kids to stop texting and start smiling as you snap their photo with Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift or Twilight’s Taylor Lautner, to name a few. From Marvel Super Heroes to music and movie mega-stars, Madame Tussauds will have your teen going gaga…Lady Gaga that is!
4. Famous Fat Dave’s Food Tour
Umm…Can you say yummy? Yes, grab the kids and take to the streets in a classic, checkered cab for the ultimate – teen approved – NYC food tour! From pickles and pizza to spumoni and pastrami, your family will get to sample some of the best bites – while listening to amusing and historical facts, via Dave – on a tasty tour designed for the whole family. You have to make reservations to go on Famous Fat Dave’s Food Tour and space fills up fast. So plan ahead and let him help your family chomp through The Big Apple. Delicious!
5. You Can’t Forget About Broadway
Everyone knows that teens LOVE drama—whether it’s their drama or someone else’s—and nothing says drama quite like a trip to the theater. We let our kids take the lead role when deciding on a Broadway show. NYC offers a plethora of family-friendly performances like The Lion King, Annie, Wicked, Mary Poppins and Spider-Man so it was easy for them to find a show that fit the playbill! Tips: Look for discounted same-day tickets at the TKTS booth in Times Square, and Hilton Times Square is a great location from which to explore New York!
