4 Fun Things to do in CT with Kids
Visit a Nature Center
All across Connecticut, you will find nature centers that give you up-close encounters with flowers, insects and animals. Each of these nature centers is dedicated to agricultural sciences and exposing families to engaging activities in their natural surroundings.
Some of our favorites include: Stamford Museum & Nature Center, Ansonia Nature Center, and Roaring Brook Nature Center, where your family will not only learn about our natural world but also understand how to help preserve it.
Spend a day the State’s only Zoo
Beardsley Zoo was established over 90 years ago by the one and only PT Barnum and is home to miniature horses, wolves, red pandas and various amphibians, birds, insects, mammals and reptiles from across the world. The zoo is stroller and wheelchair friendly and offers a beautiful indoor carousel for a respite on those hot August days. Don’t forget your camera, and definitely visit the zoo’s website to learn about animal feedings and special events.
Go tubing on the river
For $20 a person, Farmington River Tubing company rents tubes and life vests to cruise the wild and beautiful Farmington River with three sets of natural rapids! Apply sunscreen, bring water and get ready for 1 1/2 hours of scenic views with plenty of adventure. Visit the site for more details and age restrictions.
Find your sea legs at the Mystic Seaport Museum
An abundance of maritime history can be found along the coast of Connecticut, but it is truly celebrated and preserved at the Mystic Seaport museum. Take a boat ride, make a wooden boat, and spend the day getting a glimpse into the past. Be sure to check out the various speakers sprinkled throughout the the seaport talking about the history of the port, as well as the lives of the fishermen that worked there in the past.
