Hamilton Ontario is known for many things, we are home to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the scenic Bruce Trail, McMaster University and we were once labeled “The Steel City” for our large steel factories. Recently Hamilton has undergone a big transformation and is becoming less recognized for its steel factories and more recognized for its growing art and trendy restaurant scene. In the past few years the “Hammer“– Hamilton, has really started making a name for itself. With new trendy hot spots popping up each week, this city is making its mark on the map!

Hungry in Hamilton
For something to tickle your taste buds take a bite out of Hambrgr Restaurant.  Hambrgr puts a creative spin on the classic burger & fries. Burger lovers cannot go wrong here, with many different options there is something for everyone.  From classic meat burgers to veggie burgers you can add a variety of toppings to make a delicious burger. Enjoy a Caesar Cocktail – the primarily consumed Canadian drink comparable to a Bloody Mary – includes a mixture of clamato juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire, and vodka in a celery salt-rimmed glass garnished with a stalk of celery and wedge of lemon and lime, this is a must try in Hamilton.

For a classier bite, try out Toast Wine Bar for your next girl’s night out. This elegant vintage atmosphere is a great place to un-WINE-d after a long work day! I would suggest trying the Barrata cheese dish, sweet beets, and Bacon & Brie Toast.

Collective Arts Brewery introduced the micro-brewery craze that is trending in Hamilton right now. I really enjoy the funky atmosphere here and the brewery has a large event space for concerts and special events. My favorite little detail is the amazing artwork on each crafty can.

Finally, Hamilton’s beloved SuperCrawl – this is the event of the year and has made Hamilton’s Art culture what it is today. Super Crawl takes place on September 14, 2018 – September 16, 2018, and features free music on multiple stages lining the length of James Street North. This festival also includes large-scale visual art installations, performance artists, an artisan market, food trucks and fashion.

Hit the Trails
One of my go-to spots, whenever I need to clear my mind, grab some fresh air or I have a burst of energy that I need to release, I hit the Bruce Trail. This beautiful walking path is full of character and is exceptionally beautiful in the fall when the leaves change colors. This spot really calls home to me as I spent a lot of my younger years exploring these trails and found a love for adventure and nature at the Bruce Trail.

Bayfront Park is another great spot if you are looking for outdoor adventures and exercise.  Open from dusk till dawn; this spot is perfect for the early riser or night crawlers. With a 6-meter wide asphalt pathway, Bayfront Park creates many opportunities to engage in a variety of leisurely activities while enjoying views of the surrounding harbor area. Bring your picnic basket, rollerblades or ice skates in the winter and fall in love with Bayfront Park Hamilton.

Nightlife in Hamilton
If you are looking for nightlife, dancing, and patio parties look no further than Hess Village. Located in the heart of downtown Hamilton this is a great hot spot for party goers. My favorite bar on Hess Street has to be Gown & Gavel as it is known for its great atmosphere, patio, and music!

For a more adult crowd check out Agusta Street or James Street North. With multiple mini pubs and restaurants, the drinks are definitely flowing around these part of Hamilton. This is an after the office hot spot to chill out and grab a cold one after a long day. The Ship has to be one of Hamilton’s oldest pubs and it is known for its hipster crowd and craft beer selection.

Lastly, an ultimate Hamiltonian favorite, located on the west side of downtown is The Bean Bar. They feature live acoustic music on Saturday nights and a menu to die for! Grab a drink and stay a while at this cozy, trendy gastropub and restaurant. From an extensive drink menu, impeccable desserts and the best calamari I have ever eaten – The Bean Bar is on the top of my list for a fun and enjoyable night out in the Hammer!

With food, art and comfort all wrapped up into what we call #HamOnt what’s not to love about this evolving city. Make Hamilton, Ontario your next weekend getaway destination!
