5 Ways (and Reasons) to Get Social When You Travel!
Most people know that social media is a great way to keep up with your favorite brands, but did you ever consider that it might be a great idea to get social with your favorite brands to enhance your travels? It’s true!
Here are some tips for using social media to get the most our of your travel adventures:
Follow Hotels, Airlines and Local Tourism Agencies
Before your trip, make sure to locate your hotels, airlines, local tourism agencies, restaurants and attractions on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Follow and “Like” them and maybe even let them know that you are headed their way and that you can’t wait. You never know, the right person might see your comment and provide exciting feedback or upgrades! We arrived at a restaurant once to find a birthday table set for our celebration due to the fact that we had let them know that we were headed there for my daughter’s birthday!
By searching social media accounts and hashtags related to your destinations, you might find valuable information about the areas that you will be visiting. Hot finds could include everything from finding out about great local restaurants, favorite family friendly activities, a fun seasonal event or even a celebrity sighting.
Connect with Fellow Travelers
The best travel information always comes from those who have experienced a destination themselves. Use social media to chat with seasoned travelers about your destination, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised to find that people are very willing to share their experiences. Some of my best travel gems have come from other travelers, thus my great love for my fellow Hilton Mom Voyage writers!
Keep up to date with offers and promotions
Many brands will communicate timely offers, sales and even event announcements through their social media channels. It’s a great way to keep up with the latest and greatest happenings, and if you don’t actually see the information that you are looking for, then tweet at them and ask!
Which brings us to my final and favorite tip for using social media when you travel:
The whole point of social media is to be social, and most companies have social media managers that would love to interact with you! Not only is it their jobs, but you actually help them to do their jobs by creating conversation with them about their services.
Connect with them by tagging yourself and your favorite moments. Let that ice cream shop in San Diego know that it was best ice cream you’ve ever had by tagging them in your photo on Instagram! Tweet that gorgeous Florida sunset out to the resort you are staying at. Did you receive excellent service from the concierge? Tweet out a thank you, and you’ll have made a new friend for life. Social media is your direct connection to the people behind these companies, and I think you will find that the joy of travel is magnified when it’s shared!
