Northern Sonoma Wine County consists of Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Russian River Valley. There’s a variety of wineries from small, boutique to large productions. This is my journey in this picturesque valley.

Alexander Valley

de Lorimier Winery
It’s a must stop! Great outdoor courtyard and patio. They have wonderful bold red wines. Current releases – Meritage and Cabernet Franc are my favorites. Save the best for last and head to the Reserve room for their reserve Cabernet Sauvignons.

Hanna Winery
This winery sits atop of the hill and has wonderful panoramic views of the valley. Their flagship is red wines but my favorite would be their white wine Sauvignon Blanc. It’s fruity but has a crisp taste.

Bella Vineyards
A small winery that is tucked in a hillside known for their Zinfandels. I highly recommend visiting their wine caves.

Russian River Valley

Matrix Winery
Cozy wine tasting room with award winning Pinot Noirs.

HKG Estate Winery
The historic hop kiln produces small boutique wines. They’re known for their estate Pinot Noirs.

Soda Rock Winery
When first arriving at this winery, my first thought was that the exterior was a combination of old and new. The tasting bar has dark wood which complements the exposed rock walls. Besides its architecture, they are known for their red wines, especially their Primitivos – deep reds with a hint of pepper and blackberry.

Dry Creek Valley

Everett Ridge Winery and Vineyard
Known as the second oldest winery in the valley. It has wonderful views. Their staples are red wines. The Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, both are deep and full flavored.

Truett Hurst
A unique winery that has a lush garden setting. They have several Pinot Noirs to choose from. Bring your glass and sit in one of the many Adirondack chairs along the creek.

Porter Creek Vineyards
This is a small vineyard but what they lack in size is made up with the wines they produce. My favorites are their Zinfindel and Syrah; both are bold with a smooth finish.

Where I’d stay: The Hilton Sonoma Wine Country for great views of Santa Rosa and close to Railroad Square Historic District, or the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sonoma Wine Country for delicious cookies upon arrival as well as two golf courses and a large outdoor pool.
