Winnie has lived in Washington D.C. for 16 years. She has been a volunteer for both the Smithsonian Institution and the National Park Service. Her last vacation was to the Azores, the highlight of which was hiking around the rim of a volcano. She can’t resist a botanical garden, a night market, or a good book.
Winnie’s Top Three Tips for Traveling?
- Buy duplicates of your necessities (toothpaste, hairbrush, etc.) and always keep them in your suitcase. Makes packing for each trip so much easier.
- It’s okay not to do EVERYTHING. Be really present at each place you visit rather than stressing about getting to the next site on your list.
- Talk to the volunteers. They are passionate about the sites they are supporting; if you take a few minutes to spend time with them, you can get some true insider tips.
