A Tour of Jordan; Your Next Must-Visit Destination
“Ahlan,” and welcome to Jordan!
If you have never been to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, then it is time to add this wonderful country to your bucket list. Known for its spectacular culture, scenery and hospitable people, Jordan is a destination for travelers looking for relaxation and adventure alike.
Jordan has thousands of attractions and welcomes visitors to experience its diversity, to learn more about its history, and to enjoy its year-round warm weather! And while Jordan is not the largest country, it can still be overwhelming trying to choose where to start!
Allow me to take you on a tour of Jordan where I share my favorite destinations that I think you must visit during your trip! We will start our tour with the center of Jordan, Amman.
Amman is the capital of Jordan, a very modern city, yet it is full of historical sites and is a perfect place to start your Jordan tour. Visit the ancient Citadel to see numerous Roman, Byzantine and early Islamic remains. Downhill from the Citadel and just a five-minute walk from downtown, you can also see the Roman Theatre; it is the most obvious and impressive relic of ancient Philadelphia.
While walking through town, you will find many old markets, called “souqs.” Each souq specializes in the products they sell, such as jewelry, traditional & embroidered clothes, fruits & vegetables, Arabic sweets, antiques, books and much more.
After all of that walking, you’ll want to make room for plenty of food! There are many Arabic and international restaurants to try. From casual cafes to fine dining, from fun and loud to intimate ambiances, Amman has it all. Regardless of where you dine, must try “Mansaf,” the local dish of Jordan, and “Kunafa,” the local dessert. I highly recommend heading to Rainbow Street for the best dining, cafes, bars and lounges in Amman!
Rest assured, this is only a handful of places to see and eat in Amman! For more recommendations, be sure to tweet us @HiltonSuggests! And stay tuned for our next stop in Jordan… to the west of Jordan; we’ll explore the Dead Sea, Wadi Mujib, and Madaba.
